Daddy's Got a Brand New Job!!!!

I have been offered and have accepted a full-time position as an instructor at Pitt Community College.  Normally one must have a master's to get such a position, but since I've been working there part-time for two years now, and I have almost five years experience as a programmer in the real-world, they have suspended that requirement because they had not been able to find a suitable candidate.

I am stoked.  I have always dreamed of developing games and this is going to give me the impetus and the time to seriously start working on some ideas I've had kicking around for a LONG time.

U2 Rocked Raleigh, NC!

I know that this was a couple of weeks ago, but it is so worthy of mention that I had to get around to it.

I have to say that before going to this show I had been told, in a second-hand manner, that this show sucked.  My wife teaches Pitt Community College and she has a student who apparently drove all the way to Boston to see the show, and she said that it sucked.  Now, she didn't give any particulars as to how it sucked, just that it did suck.  So, while I wasn't about to take this unknown person's word for it, I was more than a little curious to see if U2, had for some reason, joined the legions of suckdom that so pervade all that exists in pop culture today.

Obstreperous

Last night my eight year old daughter and four year old son were in the living room playing Lego Batman late. My son was being his typical defiant self and just being loud and kind of obnoxious. My daughter chimed and in and said "Jacob is being obstreperous!" I was like, wah??? "What did you say?" So she said it again. I asked here where she had heard that, and she said "school".

I asked her what it meant, and she said "I think it means like and load and not listening and stuff". Which is pretty dang close to the actual meaning.

Just wanted to brag a little bit about my smart little girl!!!

Researching Unitarian Universalism

My wife the other day suggested that we go to the local Unitarian church this Sunday, and while I wasn't over-elated at the prospect, from what I've heard about this group, they are much more closely aligned with my ideas of what study of the divine should be than any other church I've ever heard of.

So I'm going to research the church a little bit and document that search here:

This guy Michael Servetus wrote against the idea of a Trinity and was burned at the stake in 1553 for his efforts. I've always thought that the trinity was more than a bit hokey and troublesome.

"Jesus was a man, but a man with a unique relationship to God."

Ralph Waldo Emerson had been a Unitarian minister

Emerson’s Unitarian Transcendentalism - He believed that we could have direct knowledge of God through our intuition. Emerson’s American Transcendentalism is the belief that we humans can intuit the existence of God. An 1828 dictionary defines intuition as "the act by which the mind perceives . . . the truth of things, immediately, or the moment they are presented, without the intervention of other ideas, or without reasoning and deduction."

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote
<> The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
<> Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
<> Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
<> A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
<> The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
<> The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
<> Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.[17]
